Shankland not feeling ‘too much pressure’ at Rangers

Lawrence Shankland is not feeling too much pressure following his move to Rangers this summer.

The 30-year-old completed his move from Hearts to Rangers prior to the World Cup, ending a four-year spell at his previous club.

Since joining Hearts in 2022, Shankland’s 72 goals are more than any other player in the Scottish top-flight, while he has also directly contributed to the most goals (91) in that time.

Overall, he has scored 80 times in 185 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

Shankland helped Hearts finish second in the league last term, losing out on the title on the final day against Celtic, but he is now eager to get going at Rangers, who are managed by former Hearts boss Derek McInnes.

“I don’t actually feel too much pressure,” Shankland said.

“Obviously, when you go everywhere and you get a fresh start, you need to get yourself, try and make yourself the first name on the team sheet and that’s what I’m going to try and do here as well. Nothing changes with that approach.

“I’ve always wanted to prove myself.

“I want to make the most of every opportunity I get. I’m buzzing to be here, buzzing to get started and really looking forward to it.

“The manager knows me as a player, first and foremost. He’s known me for a long time. He knows what I thrive on as a player.

“My role probably last year was a bit different from what he had maybe seen when I was younger.

“The good thing is he knows what to expect from me. We’re on the same page.”

Rangers start their 2026-27 league campaign on July 31 away to Dundee United, while their first home game comes on August 9 against Hibernian.
