Seahawks to face Marcus Mariota in Week 3 game vs Commanders

The Seattle Seahawks are 2-0 on the year following their thumping of the Arizona Cardinals to win their 12th-straight game. They are looking to improve to 3-0 (and 13th-straight victory) with a win over the Washington Commanders this coming week, and now they know who they will face.

It was announced on Monday afternoon by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Marcus Mariota will be starting for the Commanders in Week 3 against the Seahawks. This is hardly unexpected, as regular starter Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow during a blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately for Daniels, this is the same elbow and same injury he sustained in a loss against the Seahawks last year.

Seattle should be able to take care of business against the Commanders, but they cannot afford to overlook them. Marcus Mariota is a solid veteran backup who is more than capable of providing solid play. This will probably be the best Mariota is this season since there is limited tape on him in 2026.

Still, the matchup clearly favors the Seahawks. Last year when Mariota took over for the injured Daniels, he went 2-6 in his eight starts. He completed 61.2% of his throws for 1,695 yards for ten touchdowns and seven interceptions. Seattle limited the Cardinals to only two first downs and 44 total yards in the second half. Now they get to face a Commanders team without their best player.

The schedule is going to get considerably tougher in the coming weeks, so the Seahawks need to bank the winnable games when they can.
