The Seattle Seahawks lost to the Chicago Bears in Week 8 in a Monday Night matchup that featured a fun storyline of two recent trade pickups, with Quenton Nelson at left guard for the Seahawks and Jeffery Simmons at defensive tackle for the Bears.
While the Seahawks lost the battle there, and the game as a whole, there are still plenty of things to be confident about with this team. But, unfortunately, heading into Week 9 against the Arizona Cardinals, the Seahawks got some bad news.
According to Gregg Bell of 93.3 KJR radio, the Seahawks will not have Nelson in Week 9, as he’s been ruled out by head coach Mike Macdonald due to a knee issue that will have him week to week going forward.
Quenton Nelson ruled out for Week 9 amid knee injury
“OUT: … Quenton Nelson ‘minor procedure, not IR’… Nelson ‘had something he was dealing with when he got here,’ from Colts trade, Mike Macdonald,” Bell reports.
Macdonald told reporters on Friday that Nelson, the Seahawks’ recent Pro Bowl offensive guard addition, will miss Week 9, and also potentially Week 10 as he deals with a knee issue.
He’s having a minor procedure on his knee and will miss the Cardinals matchup. With the team’s Week 11 bye, it stands to reason that the Seahawks will hold Nelson, their big trade pickup, out for Week 10 as well.

The next time the Seahawks get Nelson might be in Week 12, when they face off against the San Francisco 49ers in what could be a pivotal matchup for the NFC West division title.
What’s important to note about this injury is that it’s not a new problem, and it’s something the Seahawks reportedly knew before they acquired him from the Colts.
While Nelson will miss a week, maybe more, he should be able to come back this season when it matters most. Just for the next week or so, Anthony Bradford will take back over.
The Seahawks are fortunate they face the Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders these next two weeks, which are matchups they should be able to win, even if Nelson is out.
