Saudi Arabia executes Nigerian convicted of cocaine smuggling

Saudi Arabian authorities have executed a Nigerian citizen, Idris Ibrahim, after he was convicted of smuggling cocaine into the Kingdom.

The execution was carried out in the Madina region on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the conclusion of the legal process against him.

According to a report by DW Hausa, Ibrahim was found guilty of trafficking cocaine into Saudi Arabia. His conviction and death sentence were subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court before the sentence was carried out.

Saudi Arabia maintains strict laws against drug trafficking, with severe penalties, including the death penalty, imposed on individuals convicted of smuggling or dealing in illicit drugs.
