The Philadelphia Eagles did not have a successful 2025 season by any means. While the defense looked good, the offense was a complete mess.

Kevin Patullo’s offense just didn’t work, and it didn’t help that the offensive line was hurt, and players weren’t playing well enough. Saquon Barkley was one of the biggest players impacted, as the run game took a massive step back last season.

Amid the struggles, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Barkley shared a wish for the Eagles’ offense that, while it didn’t come true last season, should come true in 2026 under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.

Saquon Barkley might have wish granted for Eagles offense in 2026

“Running back Saquon Barkley is known as the ultimate good teammate who doesn’t create issues internally, but whispers began last year that he would welcome running the ball from under center more often,” Fowler reports.

While Fowler isn’t reporting that Barkley was doing anything detrimental to the team by wishing for more under-center runs, it’s noteworthy the language Fowler used.

Leading up to this wish from Barkley by noting how he’s the “ultimate good teammate” implies that this wish from the star running back was a bit out of character.

However, it’s an understandable stance from Barkley, as running out of under-center formations should help him. As Fowler notes, “That way, he can see the linebackers and safeties more clearly and set up big gains.”

Being able to generate explosive runs was something the Eagles were missing in 2025, and if the under-center formations can help him run off some big gains, then the Eagles should be all about making that change.

Fortunately, Mannion is implementing more under-center plays for this Eagles offense, and hopefully, that means there are big plays awaiting Barkley this upcoming season.
