Saints update Alvin Kamara’s status after he abruptly left practice Tuesday

· · 2 min read

The New Orleans Saints received some encouraging news on Alvin Kamara after the veteran NFL running back abruptly left Tuesday’s joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys.

Kamara suffered a knee injury, but he avoided a major setback and is expected to miss only a few weeks, according to Nick Underhill.

Kamara was unable to finish Tuesday’s practice after suffering the knee injury and was evaluated by the Saints’ medical staff.

The initial concern was understandable given how quickly Kamara left the field, but the latest update is much more positive. Kamara did not suffer a tear, and the injury is not considered major.

That is obviously good news for New Orleans, but missing several weeks is still a significant setback. Kamara needs valuable practice time to prepare for the regular season, and the Saints will now have to manage his workload carefully as he works his way back.
could see increased work

The injury also puts more attention on Travis Etienne, who joined the Saints during the offseason. Etienne is coming off a 1,107-yard rushing season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was already expected to have a major role in New Orleans’ backfield.

If Kamara is unavailable for an extended stretch, Etienne could see even more work. That makes this injury particularly relevant for fantasy football managers as well, especially with Kamara already expected to have a different role this season.

The Saints obviously would have preferred for Kamara to avoid an injury altogether, but this could have been much worse. Multiple reports have indicated that he avoided a serious knee injury and will miss a few weeks rather than facing a season-ending problem.

For now, New Orleans’ priority is getting Kamara healthy while making sure Etienne and the rest of the running back room are prepared to handle additional work. The Saints avoided the worst-case scenario, but Kamara’s recovery will be worth watching closely over the next few weeks.
