Saints sign defensive lineman Brien Taylor among host of roster moves

· · 1 min read

On Friday, the New Orleans Saints announced that they had signed defensive lineman Brien Taylor Jr.,among a flurry of other roster moves. This was first reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football. Taylor was among a dozen players who tried out for the Saints on Friday before the signing. Also signed a little earlier in the day were veteran free agent linebacker Deion Jones, with edge rusher Garrett Nelson claimed off waivers.

Taylor is an undrafted rookie from the Florida Gators listed at 6-foot-5 and 294 pounds. Prior to Florida, Taylor played at Blinn College in Texas. He transferred to the Gators in 2024, where he had 2 sacks and 5 tackles for loss among 38 total stops in two years. Taylor’s best game was arguably against a highly-regarded offensive line of the Texas Longhorns in 2025, when he had 1.5 sacks and a few other key pressures.

After the 2025 season, Taylor initially entered the transfer portal and had visits with the Tennessee Volunteers and Clemson Tigers. However, he was denied an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA and had little choice but to turn to the NFL. Along with Nelson, Taylor will compete for depth on a defensive line thinned by a season-ending ACL injury to Brian Bresee and waiving undrafted rookie Keeshawn Silver with an injury designation.
