Russell Wilson Receives Message From Vanessa Bryant Following Retirement Announcement
Russell Wilson8217;s russell-wilson-patrick-mahomes-retirement/">retirement announcement has been making waves across the football world ever since the veteran shared the news through an emotional video clip. Wilson put together some of his best moments in the game in a video compilation, thanking the game for everything it gave to him.
As expected, the comments section was filled with sentimental notes and wishes, including one from Vanessa Bryant. Those who have been following the Wilsons and their lives know only too well that Vanessa and Ciara share an almost sister-like relationship with each other. It is only normal that Vanessa would be one among the millions who shared their congratulations for the veteran.

“Congratulations, brother! @dangerusswilson,” Vanessa Bryant captioned her Instagram post for Russell Wilson.
Russell Wilson’s wife, too, was spotted in the comments section, sharing her own sweet note for her husband. Ciara has obviously been a strong part of Wilson’s football career, even making a number of big adjustments to accommodate her husband’s career.
Wilson’s career in the last few seasons has not been so impressive, with several football icons even openly advising him to finally hang up his cleats. Despite all this negative criticism surrounding his game, the playmaker continued to play through several more campaigns before he finally made his decision.
Russell Wilson Was Offered Backup Role By Jets
Russell Wilson continued to get offers in football before he announced his retirement. Unfortunately, none of the roles that came toward him involved him being the starter for the team. In fact, the last offer for Wilson involved him playing backup to Geno Smith with the Jets.
Wilson is no stranger to the backup role. He spent the majority of the previous campaign as backup to rookie Jaxson Dart with the Giants, despite kicking off the campaign for them as the primary playmaker. Even after being demoted to a backup role, Wilson found himself being crucially needed as Dart’s mentor.
It seems like Wilson is done with being the backup for any team, for that matter, and decided to call it quits on his own. However, the guy is not retired from the game fully, since he has already gone on to kick off a new career in sports broadcasting with CBS Sports. Wilson made this announcement lately, even going on to share a number of pictures from his first day at his new job.
