Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Geronimo Rulli from Marseille.

The goalkeeper has signed a two-year deal at Etihad Stadium following a reported £1.7m (€2m) move from Marseille, where he spent two seasons.

Rulli is set for his second spell with City after signing for the club in 2016, though he spent the 2016-17 campaign on loan with Real Sociedad before signing permanently for the Spanish club the following summer.

This time around, the 34-year-old is expected to be City’s back-up option to Gianluigi Donnarumma after James Trafford’s departure earlier in the transfer window.

“This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp,” Rulli told the club website.

“When the chance to join Manchester City comes along you have to go for it.

“Everyone knows what an impressive club this is. City’s success over a long time has been impressive.

“Everyone I have spoken to about City said I had to join them because they are a club with incredibly high standards.

“My job now is to train hard, get to know the players and staff and do everything I can to reach my best level.”

Rulli kept 13 clean sheets in 63 Ligue 1 games for Marseille, the joint-fifth most among goalkeepers in the French top-flight over the last two seasons.

He also recorded the fourth-most saves in that time (168), helping Marseille finish second in 2024-25 and fifth last term.

Rulli has also represented Ajax, Montpellier and Villarreal during his career, winning the Europa League with the latter in 2020-21.

The goalkeeper was also part of the Argentina squad which won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America.
