Rob Gronkowski stuns Kay Adams with his dark horse MVP prediction

Rob Gronkowski has certainly shared a hot take for the 2026 NFL season, which has left Kay Adams amazed.

The former New England Patriots tight end has named the new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray as his dark horse for the MVP award.

Considering Murray has spent three of the last four seasons finishing bottom of the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals, this would certainly be some turnaround.

Kevin O’Connell named Murray as the starter for the Vikings over J.J. McCarthy following his offseason move to Minnesota earlier in the year.

What the expectations of Murray should be still remain a mystery to most, but Gronk clearly believes he has the ability to enjoy a special season with the Vikings.

Gronkowski certainly knows what an MVP quarterback looks like having spent his career playing with the great Tom Brady.

However, not many will expect Murray to perform anywhere near the calibre of an MVP contender.

“Yeah, I’m going with Kyler Murray. It’s kind of a resurgence of his career. I mean, Kyler Murray has all the tools to be great. His athleticism, he’s got a great arm, but he’s in a situation now where it’s either he succeeds or the NFL moves on from him,” Gronk said on the Up & Adams Show.

“This is kind of a prove-it season, and he couldn’t be in a better situation to prove it this year. You got Justin Jefferson. You got T.J. Hockenson at tight end, who’s elite. Jordan Addison as your second wide receiver. I mean, Kevin O’Connell as the head coach who’s offensive-minded.

“Kyler Murray, you know, has the chance to shine.”

This stunned Adams, who could not hide her shock as she replied, “Wow!” when Gronk first named Murray.

It would be an incredible story if Murray was able to perform anywhere near the level required to even be in this conversation.

If Murray is to enjoy a season like this, then he is going to have to form a solid relationship with Jefferson at receiver.

Jefferson will prove the difference for the Vikings, something Murray will need to quickly pick up in their season-opener against the Green Bay Packers.
