'Roaders bounce back to win three against DockHounds

After the Lake Country DockHounds ended the Cleburne Railroaders’ eight-game win streak on Thursday, the ‘Roaders bounced back to win their next three games.

The Fourth of July holiday proved successful for the Railroaders, with wins over the DockHounds Friday (12-5), Saturday (6-5) and Sunday (16-4).

With a 25-21 record, the Railroaders now sit in third in the East Division, right behind the DockHounds. They’re in fourth place in the American Association league overall.

They are on the road this week, with a four-game series against the Kansas City Monarchs kicking off tonight, followed by three games against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before returning home on July 17.

Ellis named Pitcher of the Week

Scott Ellis earned American Association Pitcher of the Week honors for his role in a historic road trip with the Cleburne Railroaders.

The Railroaders notched back-to-back three-game sweeps over the Chicago Dogs and Milwaukee Milkmen to move into the final playoff spot in the East Division.

Ellis earned the nod as Pitcher of the Week for his complete-game shutout performance June 26 in a 2-0 win in the series opener against Milwaukee. Ellis threw 114 pitches, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Both of Cleburne’s runs came in the eighth inning. A solo shot from Cole Foster broke the tie before Mallex Smith singled home Brantley Bell to add to the lead.

In the following game, Dakota Chalmers went the distance in a 6-1 win. Chalmers allowed one earned run on eight hits while striking out five. It is the first time in Cleburne Railroaders history that starting pitchers have thrown complete games in back-to-back games.

Foster homered again in the win, his third of the season. Smith drove in three runs as well. He now has nine RBIs on the campaign.
