LeBron James is one of the most popular people in the world, so every bit of news about him gets attention. He is the biggest name in the NBA over the past two decades, and that has led to constant coverage around him, his performances, and his decisions, like signing with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer.

As his agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul knows that there are always stories swirling around his biggest client. Through the years, Paul got to learn that it won’t go away, so he and LeBron just kept it moving and did their own thing.

LeBron was the best player in the league for a long time, and with success comes attention. During the tail end of his first Cleveland Cavaliers stint, he was being criticized for not winning a championship. When he showed ambition to win a championship by signing with the Miami Heat, the media then thrashed him for building the Heatles.

During that time, it is likely that LeBron learned that he can never win over the media because they will create narratives against him. That is why he started not paying attention to them, as he just focused on himself and the legacy he was building.

Paul has been in James’ inner circle since 2003, but he fully became the agent in 2012 when he launched Klutch Sports Group. Wth that experience, Paul made sure to stay tapped into the media, and that is where he kept seeing how negative LeBron coverage did numbers.

“I think somewhere in the algorithm somebody said ‘Hey, if you speak negatively about LeBron, people want to pay attention to you.’ I think that somewhere is in the manual of social media,” Paul said on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman.

This is not a surprise anymore because Paul is bringing up a point that has been accepted now. As long as LeBron is in the league, he will be a headline attraction, and it might even transcend his career because he will always be one of the biggest names in sports, just like his fellow GOAT contender, Michael Jordan.
