Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy has suggested Salah could yet remain at Liverpool following Arne Slot’s exit, claiming the forward has not made a final decision. Speaking to ON Sport, he said:

“He spent a long time there. He got used to the club, gave them everything, lived many happy moments there, won a lot of trophies. Naturally, leaving would affect him. That’s normal. But who knows? Maybe things could still change and he could stay. Nobody knows. He said exactly: ‘Honestly, I still don’t know.’ That’s what he told me. So I really don’t know where he’ll go. He hasn’t made a decision yet.”

It is an emotional quote, certainly. It also says very little. “Nobody knows” is not a transfer update, it is a holding pattern.

Crook Dismisses Salah Staying Talk

Salah terminated his Liverpool contract a year early after serious tensions with Slot, despite producing a remarkable final full season at Anfield. A player delivering 34 goals and 23 assists does not normally walk away unless something has broken beyond simple repair.

Slot’s departure may remove one obstacle, but it does not automatically rebuild the bridge.

Liverpool Cannot Live on Sentiment

There is a temptation, especially with a player of Salah’s stature, to imagine every door remains slightly open. Liverpool supporters know what he gave the club. They know the goals, the trophies, the authority, the fear he carried into every defensive line.

Yet football decisions at this level are rarely romantic. Salah was on a deal worth up to £480,000 a week. His future now appears tied to Egypt’s World Cup campaign, with agent Ramy Abbas Issa urging patience and making clear that private plans will remain private.

That does not sound like a player edging quietly back into Kirkby.

World Cup Focus Comes First

For Salah, the World Cup now provides the obvious staging post. Any major decision before Egypt’s campaign ends would be a distraction, and Abbas has made it clear that non-committal answers should not be treated as confirmation.

Liverpool, meanwhile, must plan without drifting into fantasy. Salah may still love the club. He may still feel the emotional weight of leaving. None of that means a return is likely.

This feels less like a comeback trail and more like transfer noise built around one uncertain quote. Crook’s dismissal of the idea sounds right. Salah and Liverpool had their era. At some point, even the greatest eras have to stay closed.
