Report Romagnoli transfer to Al-Sadd could collapse for 2nd time

Lazio had agreed Alessio Romagnoli’s sale to Al-Sadd weeks ago, but there is still no progress amid suggestions the Qatari club is backing out of the transfer.

This is a deal that seemingly has been doomed from the start, as he had been pushing hard for the exit in January and even went so far as to wave goodbye to the fans.

Instead, it all crumbled when they failed to get the paperwork sorted by the deadline, and he remained for another six months.

Romagnoli still waiting for Al-Sadd

It was widely reported at the end of June that Romagnoli had already signed the contract with Al-Sadd for a sale worth circa €3m.

However, a month passed and he is still in Italy waiting for the all-clear.

According to La Repubblica newspaper and Tuttomercatoweb, Al-Sadd are suddenly getting cold feet over the three-year contract worth €18m net.

The global political situation is not helping find a sense of stability, and it is entirely possible Romagnoli will see this move collapse for the second time in six months.

The 31-year-old is still under contract with Lazio until the end of this season, having arrived as a free agent from Milan in 2022.
