Report: OKC Thunder trade Lu Dort to Hawks in 3-team deal

The Oklahoma City Thunder have finally said goodbye to a longtime starter. They traded Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a three-team trade, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. They received back three second-round picks. The Dallas Mavericks also jumped in to acquire Zaccharie Risacher. The Hawks also received Ryan Nembhard.

The Thunder have now netted seven future second-round picks this offseason with three cost-cutting trades. They also sent Aaron Wiggins to the Hawks and Isaiah Joe to the Detroit Pistons. Dort is expected to sign a long-term deal in Atlanta — something that wasn’t feasible with OKC.

With Dort’s departure, the Thunder have rolled out the red carpet for Cason Wallace. I wouldn’t be surprised to see OKC sign him to a long-term deal and promote him to being a full-time starter. The 22-year-old continues to ascend after he broke out last season as an All-Defense Team member.

Well, that’s it with Dort’s time in OKC. We’ll write more in-depth about it in the coming days, but he’s one of their best developmental stories ever. The 27-year-old spent seven seasons on the Thunder. He worked his way up from undrafted rookie to an All-Defense member and a starter on an NBA champion.

Dort averaged 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in his seven seasons in OKC. He shot 35.8% from 3 on 5.6 attempts. In that time, he was universally viewed as one of the NBA’s top defensive players.
