In early June, The Guardian’s Tom Garry broke the news, reporting that Putellas agreed to personal terms with the English club. The move has now been confirmed with Garry and also the Sport’s journalist, Maria Tikas.

The reasons behind her decision? Several. As it was reported, Putellas was looking for an ambitious project, with a strong economic investment. One that would take her out of her comfort zone one year before the World Cup in Brazil. She also didn’t want to compete directly with Barcelona and didn’t want the added emotional charge that would come with a contract with a well-established club such as Arsenal or Chelsea.

The fact she would stay close to her family was also cited among her reasons to stay in Europe, with them playing a big part in her support system.

Putellas’ signing with London City Lionesses will also reunite her with former Barcelona players such as Mapi León, Jana Fernández, Lucía Corrales and María Pérez.
