Reds Reportedly Lock Up Young Ace To Massive Contract Extension

· · 1 min read

This week has been quiet across MLB with the All-Star Break, but the Cincinnati Reds made a big splash on Thursday by reportedly agreeing to a massive contract extension with Chase Burns.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Reds and Burns are in agreement on a seven-year, $105 million deal that starts in 2027 and runs through 2033. The club hasn’t confirmed the deal yet, but there are reportedly no options or deferrals included.

Burns, 23, is in his second Major League season and just made his first All-Star team. The second overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft has been phenomenal this year, going 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 4.2 WAR.

One of the hardest throwers in baseball, Burns is now poised to lead Cincinnati’s rotation for the foreseeable future. His extension locks him up through his age-30 season, keeping him with the Reds through his prime years.

If he keeps it up, he’ll likely have several more All-Star appearances and perhaps an NL Cy Young award or two by then.
