Boston Red Sox rookie Payton Tolle is only 23, but he’s already accomplished a lot in his young life. He was a second-round draft pick in 2024, reached the big leagues in 2025, pitched in the playoffs and is now one of the best pitchers in the American League.

Tolle has achieved a lot off the field, too, including crushing a 72-ounce steak in Amarillo, Texas.

The big lefty described his impressive feat in a recent interview with MLB.

“It’s no doubt one of the things I’m most proud of in my life,” Tolle said. “A lot of food, big body, I like to eat a lot of things.”

The Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery has a 72-ounce steak challenge called “The Big Texan” where customers have one hour to eat a 72-ounce steak, a salad, a baked potato, a roll with butter and fried shrimp.

Tolle, who went to college at TCU, said he failed the first time he attempted the challenge but succeeded the second time three years later.

“I conquered… One of my greatest accomplishments,” Tolle added. “I struggled, I limped to the finish line, but we got there.”

That says a lot about Tolle’s dedication, perseverance and ability to overcome setbacks. When he sets his mind to something, he can accomplish it.

Hopefully those skills translate to his baseball career and winning a World Series someday.
