Many assume the Boston Red Sox will look to trade outfielder Jarren Duran if they decide to sell before the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline. But a new report suggests otherwise.

Duran has struggled offensively this season, posting a .200 batting average with 12 homers, 11 stolen bases and a .624 OPS in 73 games. As a result, Boston might keep Duran and instead try to trade him next offseason, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

“The more likely scenario is for the Red Sox to hold Duran for the rest of this year, hope he has a strong second half to regain some value, then look to move him in the offseason,” Feinsand wrote in a piece published Wednesday.

The report isn’t surprising. If Boston only would receive pennies on the dollar for Duran in a midseason trade, why not wait a few months to see if he increases his value?

Nevertheless, Duran will be among the more interesting names to watch as the trade deadline approaches.
