While sports fans love labeling current players or events as “one of the greatest ever,” ESPN’s Buster Olney may be onto something with his take on the Boston Red Sox‘s incredible win last night in front of their home Fenway crowd.

Despite being on the losing end of each inning from the third on, Boston found a way to claw their way back to win in 13 innings against fellow Sox rival, the Chicago White Sox. With a runner on second and first in the bottom of the 13th inning, Caleb Durbin rocketed a line drive into center field to bring Nick Sogard home and deliver a cinematic 12-11 victory; this was the only time the Red Sox led on Thursday night.

Boston has grown used to winning baseball games these last months, as they’ve achieved a 31-5 record in their last 36 games.

What did Buster Olney say about recent Red Sox-White Sox game?

After Boston’s miraculous comeback in which they were losing in every inning past the second, Olney took to social media to voice his thoughts about what he had just witnessed. While he has been covering baseball since 1989 at the Nashville Banner, Olney had incredibly high praise about Thursday’s showing in Boston.

The game of the year, without a doubt, and one of the greatest regular-season games ever.

The Chicago White Sox held a lead within every inning from the third inning through the 12th on Thursday night — 10 straight innings of leads. And lost in the 13th.

Olney went as far as calling the Sox’s 13-inning bout “one of the greatest regular-season games ever.” Thursday night’s game featured the White Sox carrying a lead into the bottom of 10 straight innings until they eventually lost in the 13th inning off a Durbin liner into centerfield.

While one X, formerly Twitter, user asked Olney to consider the latest installment of the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays’ battle. The ESPN writer, however, wanted no part of that take and doubled down on labeling Boston’s comeback as a better viewing experience.
