Real Madrid sign Felicia Schroder from BK Hacken in ‘most expensive transfer ever’ from BK Hacken

Real Madrid have signed striker Felicia Schroder from BK Hacken for what the Swedish side have called a women’s world-record transfer fee.

Schroder, 19, finished the 2025 campaign with 45 goals and 12 assists across 42 matches as Hacken won the inaugural UEFA Women’s Europa Cup, qualifying them automatically for the league phase of next season’s Champions League, as well as their first Damallsvenskan title since 2020. She has joined Real Madrid on a four-year deal.

“BK Hacken has now sold Felicia Schroder to Real Madrid in the most expensive transfer ever in women’s football,” the team said, without publicly confirming the size of the fee. Real Madrid have been approached for comment.

A record fee would surpass the $1.5million (£1.1m; €1.3m) that the Orlando Pride paid to sign Lizbeth Ovalle from Mexican club Tigres in August 2025. That eclipsed the previous record fees in 2025 set first by Naomi Girma’s transfer from San Diego Wave to Chelsea and then Olivia Smith’s move from Liverpool to Arsenal.

The Athletic revealed in May that Chelsea had made a bid for Schroder that would represent a world-record women’s transfer fee, in the region of €1.4m ($1.59m). The Athletic also reported at the time that Schroder had attracted interest from several teams across Europe and enquiries from at least two NWSL clubs.

It means Chelsea must turn their attention to other options as they look to bolster their forward line following the departure of Sam Kerr at the end of her contract. Their pursuit of Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw ended with the Jamaica international instead choosing to stay at Manchester City and sign fresh terms.

The 2025-26 campaign saw Real Madrid finish second in Liga F for the fourth consecutive season behind perennial champions Barcelona. They were also eliminated by Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
