Real Madrid decide against using registration loophole for Yan Diomande

· · 1 min read

Last week, Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, ending a saga that had lasted for weeks. The 19-year-old winger, who arrives to complete the attack alongside Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, cost a total package of €140m, although there has been suggestions in recent days that he could be registered with Castilla, rather than as a first team player.

Given that the signings of Carlos Espi and Diomande left Real Madrid with a full first team quota, it was reported that Real Madrid would consider requesting at least one – if not both – as Castilla players, thus ensuring that at least one more signing could be made without someone leaving.

However, that has proven not to be the case. As per MD, Real Madrid have registered both players with the first team, with Espi taking the number 19 jersey after it was vacated by Dani Ceballos. As for Diomande, he will wear 25, which had been vacant.

There have been several squad number changes made in the off-season. In the case of the new signings, Ibrahim Konate and Marc Cucurella will wear 16 and 17 respectively, while Denzel Dumfries takes 24 and Bernardo Silva adorns the number 20 that he had for many years at Manchester City. As for existing players, Raul Asencio has taken the number 2 that was previously Dani Carvajal’s, Dean Huijsen moves to 4 after David Alaba’s exit, while Thiago Pitarch has taken over as the club’s new number 27 – meaning that he is still registered with Castilla.

There is a chance that Real Madrid make one more signing this summer, but the fact that Espi and Diomande have been registered as first team players has decreased these chances. Nevertheless, it cannot be ruled out, although some will have to leave first.
