Rays starting rotation after Freddy Peralta trade

Freddy Peralta’s time with the New York Mets is already over. The Mets are dealing the veteran starting pitcher to the Tampa Bay Rays, according to MLB.com, in a big move before the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline.

It’s been a rough season for both the Mets as a team and Peralta individually. New York sits last in the National League East after dealing with injuries to the likes of Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Clay Holmes, Luis Robert Jr. and Mark Vientos. Peralta, meanwhile, is 5-9 with a 4.99 and 1.48 WHIP across 113.2 innings pitched.

Back in January, the Mets acquired Peralta and Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat. New York promptly gave Peralta a $8 million salary for 2026. Peralta has failed to replicate the success he had in Milwaukee, where he tallied a 3.59 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across eight seasons.

The Rays are hoping a fresh start can rejuvenate Peralta, a 30-year-old righty who’ll likely be motivated by joining a club with major postseason ambitions. Here’s a look at what their new starting rotation could look like.
