Ravens release Chris Moore after impressive preseason finale

· · 1 min read

The Baltimore Ravens have released veteran wide receiver Chris Moore as they continue reducing their roster, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. Moore delivered one of Baltimore’s best offensive performances during its 41-3 preseason victory over the Washington Commanders. He caught three passes for a game-high 54 yards during the opening possession, including a contested 25-yard touchdown from Tyler Huntley.

The performance provided a final reminder of the dependable depth Moore can offer, but Baltimore’s investment in several young receivers made his path to the initial roster difficult.

Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman lead the group, while Ja’Kobi Lane, Elijah Sarratt, Devontez Walker and LaJohntay Wester entered the final weekend with strong cases for roster positions. Keeping Moore would have required the Ravens to carry seven receivers or expose one of their younger players to waivers.

Moore, 33, began his career with Baltimore after being selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He spent five seasons with the Ravens before playing for Houston, Tennessee, Arizona and Washington. He returned to Baltimore shortly before training camp.

Because Moore is a vested veteran, he immediately becomes a free agent and does not have to pass through waivers. Zrebiec reported that Moore would be a strong practice-squad candidate if he is interested in remaining with the organization.

The move creates room for Baltimore’s young receivers while leaving open the possibility that Moore could return as an experienced reserve, special-teams contributor and trusted insurance option.
