A Fourth of July-related injury to Los Angeles Rams‘ offensive lineman Justin Dedich had fans scratching their heads.

What happened? It was a “hand accident around the Fourth of July,” head coach Sean McVay said Tuesday, which immediately had fans wondering if Dedich, much like Jason Pierre-Paul did many years ago, was injured by fireworks in some capacity.

McVay gave fans a further update on Wednesday, providing more clarity on Dedich’s injury − which the coach says had nothing to do with fireworks at all.

Apparently, this injury was a “true accident,” per McVay, who added that something fell on Dedich’s hand.

Dedich, 26, is an offensive lineman for the Rams, entering his third year in the NFL. Through two seasons, Dedich has played in 29 regular season games and made nine starts for the Rams. He’s also played in three playoff games, making one start during the 2025-26 postseason.

Dedich is not expected to miss a ton of time. McVay told reporters that the team is “expecting him to be back in a little bit of time.”

The NFL preseason begins in full on Thursday, Aug. 13, with the first games of preseason Week 1 scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET.
