Rabiot to discuss Milan future with Amorim after Allegri’s exit

Adrien Rabiot intends to hold talks with Ruben Amorim over his future at AC Milan, having avoided engaging with any transfer rumours throughout the World Cup.

Rabiot returned to Serie A last September, reuniting with his former Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri at Milan following a single season with Marseille.

However, with Allegri being dismissed in May following his failure to secure Champions League qualification, some asked if Rabiot could follow him through the exit door.

The 31-year-old made 29 Serie A appearances last season, with 28 of those being starts, and he scored six goals while adding four assists. 

Only Rafael Leao (nine goals, three assists) and Christian Pulisic (eight goals, four assists) registered more goal involvements for the Rossoneri in the competition last term.

Rabiot also ranked third among all Milan players for successful passes into the final third (337) and fourth for successful passes in the opposition half (686).

Napoli had been tipped to move for Rabiot after hiring Allegri as Antonio Conte’s successor, while Milan’s appointment of Amorim – who favoured a two-man midfield pairing at Manchester United – has raised further questions.

But Rabiot intends to enjoy some time off following France’s defeat to England in the World Cup third-place play-off, before he holds discussions with Milan’s new boss.

“First, we’ll enjoy the holidays. We have been waiting for this since we lost to Spain,” Rabiot told reporters, as quoted by Football Italia.

“Then it was a really difficult few days mentally, it was hard to concentrate on playing this match. It’s a well-deserved holiday; we need to rest well.

“I will talk to the coach, like Mike [Maignan], we will get in touch. 

“We wanted to be calm during the World Cup and not be disturbed by other things. Now there will be time to talk calmly.

“I haven’t spoken to anyone yet, as I said before, but we will definitely talk to Amorim.”

Milan’s 2026-27 Serie A campaign starts with a trip to Torino on August 23, with pre-season friendlies against Celtic, Inter, Chelsea and Manchester United to come before then.
