PWHL's Walter Cup trophy has been found, league says, after briefly going missing

In a statement shared with multiple outlets, the PWHL thanked “everyone who helped track it down and to our fans for their concern and support.” The league did not provide details on what happened.

The trophy was supposed to travel to Lethbridge, Alberta, to spend Thursday with former Victoire forward Dara Greig. However, when the container arrived in Alberta, the Cup was not inside, per multiple reports.

Montreal officials stated in a post on social media on Monday that the trophy had returned to its intended route.

“Turns out Walter needed a little rest after all the celebrations. Don’t worry, she’s been found, got some much-needed rest, and is ready to hit the road!” the Victoire wrote.

The return of the trophy frees up Greig to resume her planned time with the trophy, which included a public event in Lethbridge’s arena. Greig signed with the Ottawa Charge in the offseason, but is still granted her day with the Cup.

It’s still unclear how the trophy was lost in the first place. At the time, the PWHL said in a statement to multiple outlets that the Cup “did not arrive as expected at its latest stop,” and that the league was working with the shipping company to find it.

The 35-pound sterling silver trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., is named after PWHL owner Mark Walter.

The main trophy, which is presented to teams after winning the final, is permanently held in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
