Prime Video’s 5-Part Biblical Epic Officially Returns In 2 Weeks
One of Prime Video’s biggest hits in recent years is a biblical epic TV show that is coming back in just two weeks. Although there are a variety of streaming platforms to choose from now – either subscription-based or free –, Prime Video continues to be one of the biggest and most popular ones. Like most of the biggest streaming platforms, Prime Video is home to both licensed and original content, with some of its original productions now ranking among the best TV shows of all time.
Prime Video offers an extensive catalog of movies and TV shows from different genres, with some of its most notable original shows being Fleabag, Rings of Power, The Boys, and Reacher. Surely, not all Prime Video shows get big marketing campaigns, and many happen to find their audience in a more organic way. A great example of this happened in a perhaps lesser-known category, but still quite popular: biblical drama, with the biggest example being The Chosen.
Created by Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen was released in 2019 and has since been a consistent success. The Chosen is currently preparing for its sixth season, which will cover a key moment in the story of Jesus of Nazareth (Jonathan Roumie), and will surely continue the show’s impressive streak of success ahead of its seventh and final season, aimed for a 2028 release.
The Chosen Season 6 Is Coming To Prime Video On November 15, 2026

The Chosen explores the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth, being mostly set in Judea and Galilee in the first century. The Chosen is told through the eyes of those closest to Jesus, such as his apostles and disciples, Roman government and military officials, and other people around him. Instead of telling Jesus’ story from the very beginning, The Chosen begins with Jesus’ efforts to build a group of disciples and his ministry, as well as his first miracles.
The Chosen is the first multi-season TV show about the life of Jesus.
The Chosen was originally released on the subscription platform VidAngel, but was made temporarily free during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. After that, The Chosen‘s seasons were made free to watch, but with exclusivity windows, and in 2025, a deal was made with Amazon MGM Studios to release episodes of seasons 5, 6, and 7 in theaters, followed by a 90-day exclusivity window on Prime Video, and then made free to stream.
Now, season 6 of The Chosen is ready for its premiere on November 15, 2026, and it will cover a key part of Jesus’ story. The Chosen season 6 will go into the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, from his arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane to the interrogation he goes through and culminating with the crucifixion.
How The Chosen Has Become One Of The Biggest Hits Of The Decade

Despite being a story that has been covered in different media countless times, The Chosen has felt fresh among the many different TV shows, particularly action and drama ones, that have taken over streaming in the last decade. The Chosen has been an interesting case from the very beginning, as season 1 was financed through crowdfunding, making it the most successful crowdfunded TV show ever.
An important part of The Chosen‘s success has been its accessibility, as even though there’s an exclusivity window that requires a subscription, everyone can access the show without having to pay and commit to a streaming platform. This has also been key to The Chosen‘s global reach, climbing to the Top 10 in various countries with every season.
Of course, there’s also the overall quality of The Chosen. The show has focused on delivering a human and relatable portrayal of Jesus, his disciples, and other biblical figures that have often been portrayed as distant and one-dimensional characters in many other adaptations. This has allowed The Chosen to reach a broader audience, with viewers with no religious affiliations or with different beliefs tuning in. The Chosen season 6 will surely be a success too, and it’s to be seen how it sets up the show’s final season.
