“Pretty Disappointed in Myself” – Pete Crow-Armstrong Takes Accountability After Padres Sweep Cubs in NL Wild Card Series
Pete Crow-Armstrong has taken accountability for his struggles after the Chicago Cubs were swept by the San Diego Padres in the NL Wild Card Series, admitting that he was “pretty disappointed” in himself.
The Cubs were swept out of the 2026 National League Wild Card Series by the Padres, losing 4-1 in Game 2 on Wednesday. Despite leading the major leagues in total runs during the regular season, the Cubs did not live up to expectations in the postseason, managing just one run and eight hits across the two games.
In Game 1 on Tuesday, the Padres dominated, while Crow-Armstrong endured a frustrating night. He struck out three times and visibly vented his frustration over check-swing calls. In the second game, five Padres pitchers combined for a five-hitter to complete the sweep. Shortly after the Cubs’ postseason exit, Crow-Armstrong spoke to the media in the postgame locker room, taking accountability for the loss.
“It feels like we got beat in 2 games and, like bad answer, but none of it feels good and that’s it, so I’m just feeling pretty disappointed in myself, but that’s for me to work on, so. I mean, you could look at the scoreboard, you could look at the stat sheet, wherever you get your numbers from, and it is clear to see that I didn’t contribute, so yeah, that’s not for me to feel about right now. I wouldn’t process that well,” said Pete Crow-Armstrong.

The Cubs center fielder made MLB history on Sept. 24 by becoming the seventh player ever to join the exclusive 40-40 club. He achieved the milestone during the first inning of a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field.
After reaching the historic milestone, Pete Crow-Armstrong opened up about the achievement during his postgame interview. Revealing that he had been thinking about the possibility since Adam Jones mentioned it during the 2025 season, he said:
“Probably since Adam Jones brought it up last year, right after the break, and I’ve probably been thinking about it since then that it’s at least achievable, and I mean I’m glad it happened,” said Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Reflecting on what was going through his mind after reaching the milestone, he added:
“Don’t cry on the baseball field. That’s not okay, but that’s emotional stuff. I mean, I just I’ve gotten so much love and I’m so lucky for that and something I’m grateful for every day. So, it was definitely pretty emotional.”
