Premier League clubs ready to compete with Barcelona in the race to sign Uruguayan forward
Barcelona are pushing hard to sign Julian Alvarez as their primary replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
However, Atletico Madrid have shown a lot of resistance, which is why Barcelona are open to other alternatives in the market.
One of the alternative names on their radar is Darwin Nunez, and the Uruguayan8217;s complicated situation at Al-Hilal has made him an increasingly relevant option. Barça. though, won’t have a clear run at him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle are actively scouring the market for a new striker after German signing Nick Woltemade failed to meet expectations, scoring just 11 goals despite costing €75 million. Nunez’s profile fits precisely what they are looking for.
Liverpool also remain a factor. Nunez spent three seasons at Anfield, scoring 25 goals, and his desire to return to England is well documented.
A move back to the Premier League would hold obvious appeal for the Uruguayan.
Chelsea present a third option. With Xabi Alonso now in charge at Stamford Bridge, a return to England could be facilitated through the new manager’s contacts and vision.
Joao Pedro has been Chelsea’s top scorer this season, meaning Nunez’s arrival would add a competitive edge and greater quality to their attacking line.
Why Barcelona are involved

Nunez’s name surfaced during conversations between agent Jorge Mendes and Al-Hilal over Joao Cancelo’s permanent signing.
The 26-year-old lost his Saudi league registration following Karim Benzema’s arrival and is understood to have reached an agreement in principle to terminate his contract by mutual consent, making him a potentially cost-free option.
For Barcelona, who need someone capable of filling the 30-goal-per-season void left by Lewandowski, Nunez represents an affordable backup plan should the Alvarez pursuit stall further.
