Porto increase William Gomes release clause amid Liverpool interest
William Gomes has just signed a new five-year contract with FC Porto, which also sees his release clause rise from €80 million to €100 million, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola. This is a result of Porto’s desire to keep hold of one of their brightest talents, and to fend off interest from several Premier League clubs, most notably Liverpool.
Following the departure of Mohamed Salah, Liverpool signed Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, but neither of them is a natural right winger. Neither is Cody Gakpo, nor Rio Ngumoha. Gomes is exactly what the Merseysiders lack, a left-footed attacker who prefers to play on the right. As a result, the Brazilian remains on the radar at Anfield as a potential future target.
But for the moment, the 20-year-old remains focused on doing his best for Porto. In 10 appearances across all competitions this season, he has four goal contributions (two goals, two assists) to his name.
