Police warn supporters to behave at Devon derby
Police are urging supporters of both Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City to “behave” at a Devon Derby game in a bid to avert football-related disorder.
The match in the EFL Cup first round at Home Park kicks off at 20:00 BST on Monday.
Match commander Supt Ryan Doyle of Devon and Cornwall Police said he recognised the importance of the fixture to supporters but “a robust policing response will be taken for those who choose to misbehave, which could lead to arrests and potential banning orders”.
Doyle said the last meeting between the sides which ended in a 2-2 draw was “largely trouble free, with only a small number of arrests”.
Doyle said it was the force’s “priority” to make the match a “safe and enjoyable event” for all.
“Plymouth residents will see a heightened police presence on match day,” he said.
“As we know the vast majority of people attending the game will behave responsibly and support their team, but there can sometimes be a minority of people who are intent on engaging in poor behaviour.”
He said there were no designated venues for away supporters within the city and strongly encouraged them to travel directly to the away end of the stadium.
