Police Impound 115 Vehicles In Niger State Amid Crackdown On Unregistered Cars, Defaced Plates

The Niger State Police Command has intensified its ongoing enforcement against unregistered vehicles, defaced number plates and illegal tinted glasses, resulting in the impoundment of an additional 115 vehicles across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement, saying the affected vehicles were intercepted at various police formations for operating without registration number plates, displaying defaced or obscured number plates, or using tinted glasses without lawful authorisation.

He said all impounded vehicles were subjected to proper screening, adding that more than 90 vehicles found to be in violation of relevant traffic and vehicle registration laws had been investigated and charged before courts of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.

According to the statement, the enforcement exercise is part of the Command’s efforts to improve public safety, strengthen crime prevention and curb vehicle-related crimes across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, commended officers involved in the operation for demonstrating professionalism, civility and respect for human rights throughout the exercise.

He urged the personnel to sustain the momentum while ensuring strict compliance with standard operating procedures during subsequent enforcement operations.

CP Elleman also appreciated members of the public, particularly vehicle owners, for their cooperation and understanding, stressing that the exercise was not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to enhance security through effective identification of vehicles and prevention of criminal activities.

The Commissioner advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with clearly visible registration number plates at all times.

He also urged members of the public to comply with traffic regulations and continue to cooperate with police officers carrying out the enforcement exercise.
