The Command, in a statement issued on Friday by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe Kaborlo, said preliminary findings showed that an altercation and subsequent scuffle occurred between Obodo and the officer on August 27, 2026, during which a gun was fired.

According to the police, the incident resulted in Obodo’s death and injuries to two other passers-by.

The Command identified the officer as Corporal Alfred Louis and said he was subsequently attacked and assaulted by an angry mob, sustaining multiple injuries.

It said the officer and members of his team had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law, subject to the outcome of the investigation.

The Command said, “The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the action is totally condemnable and does not reflect professionalism in policing. The Command will not relent in carrying out strict disciplinary action against erring police officers.”

It assured the public that it would not shield any officer found to have engaged in unethical conduct capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute.

Obodo is said to be a recent graduate of the University of Port Harcourt.
