Police Bust Suspected Trailer-Dismantling Syndicate, Arrest Five In Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of a syndicate allegedly involved in stealing, dismantling and selling parts of stolen trailers.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation by detectives attached to the Ifo Divisional Headquarters, which also led to the recovery of key components of a stolen trailer, including its trailer head.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the police said the investigation began after the owner of the trailer reported that his driver had absconded with the vehicle on June 6, 2026.

According to the police, the complainant had made several unsuccessful attempts to locate both the driver and the trailer before reporting the matter to the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters.

Acting on the report, detectives under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olabisi Kamorudeen, launched an intelligence-driven investigation and deployed technical resources to track down the suspect.

The breakthrough came on July 24, 2026, when operatives traced and arrested Odulaja in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information that led investigators to other members of the alleged criminal network.

Police said the operation was extended to Ijebu-Ode the following day, where four additional suspects were arrested at different locations.

The suspects are being investigated for alleged conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen trailer was allegedly dismantled shortly after it was stolen, with its components sold off through illegal channels.

Detectives have so far recovered parts of the trailer, including the trailer head, while photographs of the dismantled vehicle have been documented as exhibits.

The police said investigations uncovered what appears to be a well-organised trailer-dismantling syndicate operating within the area.

Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining parts of the stolen trailer, identify and arrest other members of the network, determine the full extent of its operations and recover additional exhibits.

Commending the detectives for their efforts, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against organised vehicle theft.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to strengthening proactive policing strategies aimed at protecting lives and property and ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.

The commissioner also urged transport operators, fleet owners, logistics companies and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the police.
