Police begin investigation into pastor’s alleged suicide in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of Pastor  Etetim Udo in Oron local government area of the state.

The deceased, Founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries, was said to have hung himself.

A statement issued by Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Uyo on Saturday said the command received a distress call on Thursday, 23rd July, 2026, at about 8:18 am, from a resident who disclosed that upon arriving at the church premises, where he usually park his motorcycle, he noticed an unusual gathering.

He claimed that he was subsequently informed by the deceased’s children that their father had allegedly taken his own life.

The police spokesperson said operatives were immediately drafted to the scene. She said preliminary observations showed the deceased suspended with a twisted mosquito net rope adding that relevant exhibits were recovered to aid forensic examination and further investigation.

“The deceased body was later evacuated to the hospital, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed him dead.  His remains have since been deposited at the mortuary pending the conduct of an autopsy,” she added.

John said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, while assuring members of the public that the investigation will be thorough, impartial, and professionally conducted, urged anyone with useful information on the matter to come forward and stop spreading false information.
