The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspected motorcycle thief, Saleh Muhammad, and recovered two stolen motorcycles in Malam Madori and Shuwarin towns.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.
He said the arrest followed a report of a stolen red Boxer motorcycle in Malam Madori town on October 19, 2026, at about 5 a.m.
According to him, “Police operatives immediately launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect, Saleh Muhammad, 24, of Dunari town, at Kashin Dila Junction.”
He explained that the stolen motorcycle was recovered from the suspect, who had since been arraigned in court for prosecution.
In a related development, the spokesperson said police operatives attached to Shuwarin Division recovered an abandoned red Hunter motorcycle without a registration number at Gwazaye village in Kiyawa Local Government Area on October 19, 2026.
He said the motorcycle was taken to the police station for investigation.
“On October 21, 2026, a 32-year-old resident of Tunubu village in Jahun Local Government Area appeared at the Shuwarin Police Division with documents claiming ownership of the recovered motorcycle,” he said.
The claimant explained that unknown persons had stolen the motorcycle from his residence on October 18, 2026, while he was asleep.
Shisu said the police verified the ownership documents and confirmed that the chassis and engine numbers matched those of the recovered motorcycle.
He added that the motorcycle was subsequently released to its rightful owner on bond, while efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible for the theft.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling motorcycle theft and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to report suspicious movements and provide credible information to assist the police in preventing and detecting crimes.
