Police arrest 27-year-old suspect, recover two stolen motorcycles in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of motorcycle theft and recovered two stolen motorcycles in separate operations in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 7, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.

According to the statement, the first incident followed a report of a stolen motorcycle from the residence of a complainant at Burtalan Quarters, Dutse.

Following the report, police operatives activated a tracing and tracking mechanism attached to the motorcycle. The process generated its geographical coordinates, enabling officers to track the motorcycle to a house in Unguwar Tsika, Shuwarin Town.

The motorcycle was recovered, while one Najib Adamu, 27, of Dutse Local Government Area, was arrested in connection with the theft.

In a separate operation, police operatives, working with vigilant members of the community, recovered another stolen motorcycle at Narewa Village.

The motorcycle was reportedly stolen from the residence of a complainant at Kudai Village, also in Dutse Local Government Area.

The Command said the suspected thieves abandoned the motorcycle and escaped into a nearby bush after sighting the police and vigilantes who were acting on intelligence.

The motorcycle was subsequently recovered and taken into police custody, while efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the police personnel and members of the vigilante groups for their professionalism, resilience and cooperation during the recovery operations.
