Police arrest 22-year-old murder suspect in Ogun, rescue abducted victim
The Police in Ogun State has arrested a muder suspect in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect simply identified as Shaibu, 22, was arrested following reports received concerning an assault at the Alimafo area which resulted in the death of Umaru Musa, 22 .
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased following an earlier disagreement involving the deceased’s younger brother.
“Following coordinated efforts by Police personnel and members of the local community, the suspect was traced and arrested.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he added.
Also, operatives of Iperu Division rescued an abducted victim identified as Sotonwa Oluwameyowa, 29, along Ogere Road, Orisunmibare, Iperu-Remo.
Babaseyi in a statement disclosed that the incident happened on Monday at about 8:15 p.m and upon receiving a distress call immediately mobilised with So-Safe Corps, Amotekun and commenced a coordinated search of the surrounding forest.
He noted that the pressure from the joint team forced the abductors to flee, leading to the rescue of the victim less than 24 hours after the abduction was reported.
“On 28th July, 2026, at about 1620hrs, the Ajuwon Division received a report of an alleged violent assault and unlawful possession of a firearm along Ifedayo Street, Ajuwon.
“Investigation revealed that Dolapo ‘M’ allegedly assaulted the complainant and subsequently retrieved a double-barrel gun from his residence before fleeing. A search of the residence led to the recovery of one double-barrel gun and ten live cartridges.
“The complainant was assisted in obtaining medical attention, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
“On 30th July, 2026, at about 0330hrs, the Ewekoro Division received an anonymous distress call concerning an ongoing invasion of a cattle ranch at Powerline, Itori.
“Detectives immediately responded and arrested Abubakar Bello ‘M’ and Jacob Bamidele ‘M’, while other members of the group fled. A white Ford bus, believed to have been used by the group, was recovered at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
“On 31st July, 2026, at about 1640hrs, Detectives attached to the Anti-Robbery and Patrol Team of Agbado Division acted on information from a vigilant resident concerning suspicious objects found on a perimeter wall.
“The team recovered two locally made pistols and one live cartridge abandoned on the fence. The firearms have been secured for further examination, while investigation continues to identify those responsible,” the statement added.
