Coach Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish rolled up the Stanford Cardinal in Week 6 action, winning 58-7 at Notre Dame Stadium as running back Aneyas Williams starred in the first half. Backfield mate Jonaz Walton added a blistering fast 97-yard touchdown run on a banner day for the Irish.

Afterward, John Fanta of NBC Sports shared some of the most impressive statistical accomplishments of the day for coach Freeman’s team.

“The Irish are 6-0. They have won 16 straight games by double-figures. They have outscored their competition 264-66 this season. Freshman Jonaz Walton set a single-game freshman rushing record with 13 carries for 181 yards. Up next: @#8 BYU.”

Quarterback CJ Carr joined in the fun with 14-of-20 passing for 181 yards and three touchdowns on the day, making his case for Heisman consideration. Carr, who earned a Drew Brees comparison earlier this year, also rushed five times for 81 yards, showing his versatility. The Fighting Irish had nearly triple the amount of yards as the Cardinal, racking up 597 compared to 202 for coach Tavita Pritchard’s group.

The hits kept on coming for the Fighting Irish offense as they compiled 26 first downs and converted 8-of-13 third downs. On defense, the Irish held former University of Michigan starting quarterback Davis Warren to 144 yards passing and intercepted him once.

Week 6’s demolition of Stanford was a complete game that bodes well heading into the BYU game. Freeman and the Irish are putting themselves in position to win a national championship, and they look good doing it.
