PlayStation Plus Officially Drops 5 New Free Games You Can Download Now

· · 2 min read

PlayStation Plus has been one of the few positive forces in Sony’s catalogue in recent months, as they continue to struggle to get fans back on side after their decision to abandon physical media. The subscription service hasn’t been on a particularly generational run or anything, but it continues to bring those who are signed up plenty of fresh options to play each month.

October was another solid month, with games like Mafia: The Old Country, Horizon: Forbidden West, and even Dino Crisis 2 (for Premium subscribers) being made available at no additional cost. Now, thoughts have turned to what’s coming in the fledgling month of November, and the developer has just confirmed several new arrivals at PlayStation Plus’ most affordable tier.

As first reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, the Essential tier of releases for November has now been released by Sony, and subscribers are essentially getting five games to play for their money this month. Those who are signed up for Essentials benefits can now download Dead Island 2 (Secret Neighbor in Japan), Tomb Raider IV – VI Remastered, and Monster Train 2.

Dead Island 2 will likely be the headline act for many, and there’s certainly plenty of fun to be had in the first-person zombie-killing sequel. Though the gameplay doesn’t quite manage to hit the expectations people had for both games after seeing the trailers, it’s compelling enough, and the setting is really nice to wander around at length.

It’s in the Tomb Raider offerings where things really start to get interesting, and particularly exciting if you count yourself among the more thrifty portions of society. The remastered release is the full Darkness Trilogy, which includes Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.

In that regard, Angel of Darkness feels like it’s certainly the best of the bunch, and though the other entries really aren’t particularly well-liked, they are still Tomb Raider games and worth playing through as fans. The story is also quite interesting, and a nostalgic way to recapture some of the bigger releases of the late-1990s and early-2000s, with more modern visuals.

Though it is comfortably the least well-known of the bunch, Monster Train 2 is likely the best by some distance. The premise is simple enough, as “Powerful beings known as Titans have seized control of Heaven. A makeshift alliance is formed between former angels and demons, who must learn to work together against their common foe.”

From there, the game becomes a roguelite deckbuilder like no other, where the player has to experiment with different combinations of cards, abilities, and units, all to come out on top in the celestial war. The game currently sits on Overwhelmingly Positive reviews overall on Steam, so it will be worth trying out if you like the genre.

As mentioned earlier, all of those are available to download via PlayStation Plus right now, so make sure to jump on and try them out for yourself this evening.
