Detroit Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham addressed the stalemate in Jalen Duren’s contract extension negotiations. Because both sides are far from an agreement, Duren did not attend Pistons Media Day on Monday. Cunningham offered his perspective as a caring teammate.

Cunningham and Duren have grown close over the years, which the All-Star point guard addressed during his media availability.

“That’s my brother. On the court/off the court, we went to war together, obviously, but we’ve had dinners together. I’ve met his family. He’s met my family,” Cunningham said. “The negotiation is between the front office and his representation. So, they’re going to figure that out. It has nothing to do with me. The best thing I can do is be there for him, support him—encourage him. Not let him get too down when it’s such a crazy time for him.”

The Pistons have reportedly offered Jalen Duren a $200 million extension, which Cade Cunningham didn’t address specifically. However, it’s unclear how close Duren’s representation is to reaching a deal ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Pistons All-Star Jalen Duren didn’t attend Media Day amid the stalemate in contract extension negotiations. Duren reportedly declined a five-year, $200 million offer, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

“All-NBA center Jalen Duren is not attending the Detroit Pistons’ Media Day on Monday nor the start of training camp, declining the team’s five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed offer in restricted free agency so far, sources tell ESPN,” Charania reported.

“The sides remain at a stalemate ahead of Thursday’s deadline on a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer.”

The Pistons will host the Suns in their preseason opener on October 5.
