PIAA girls lacrosse: Wyomissing downs West Chester Rustin to advance to 2A title match

Wyomissing won the district title.

Twin Valley won the conference title.

One of them will be a state champion by Saturday afternoon.

Wyomissing earned the right to play Twin Valley for the PIAA Class 2A championship with a 14-12 semifinal win over West Chester Rustin on Tuesday at Penn Manor High School.

Karly Hyde led the Spartans (23-2) with five goals and an assist. Kacey Maggs had three goals and an assist and Emily Maturi had two goals and four assists.

Sienna Anastasiadis (2 assists), Claire Hurleman (1 assist), Mackenzie Maggs and Molly Macrina (1 assist) each scored for Wyomissing.

Goalie Skylar Maggs made 10 saves.

Rustin, the District 1 runnerup, led 4-2 after the first quarter, but Wyomissing scored six goals in the second quarter to take an 8-5 lead at halftime.

Wyomissing made it 12-8 after three quarters and hung on for the win as Rustin outscored the Spartans 4-2 in the fourth quarter.

The Wyomissing-Twin Valley match for the state title is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Penn State.

The Spartans beat the Raiders, 6-5, on May 26 for the District 3 Class 2A title. Twin Valley beat Wyomissing 12-7 on April 21 in a regular season match. They did not meet in the BCIAA tournament. Wilson beat Wyomissing in the semifinals and then Twin Valley beat Wilson for the titile, 8-6.

Twin Valley defeated defending state champion Villa Maria, 13-11, on Tuesday to advance to Penn State.
