With all the rumors centered around what the Philadelphia Phillies plan to do at the trade deadline, continuing to approach this as an opportunity to get better, specifically in the outfield, it continues to make you ponder whether the Phillies are actually going to land a player of Byron Buxton’s caliber. 

Buxton, one of the better players in Major League Baseball, figures to be available for the right price. However, he has a no-trade clause, and there’s a lot of uncertainty about whether he’d waive it and whether the Twins would move on from him.

While Buxton might not be available, one CBS Sports writer suggested that a couple of other players in Minnesota might be. One of them is Joe Ryan, who I think the Phillies should actually show some interest in as well.

“The 32-year-old Buxton has been on a rampage the last few weeks, hitting .297/.351/.672 with 25 home runs in his last 55 games. The Twins are only two games out of a wild-card spot in the woebegone American League, though it seems unlikely they will buy significantly at the deadline. If anything, they could still sell, with righty Joe Ryan and catcher Ryan Jeffers among their top trade chips,” Mike Axisa wrote.

I’m curious to see if the Twins would be interested in packaging Buxton and Ryan in any deal at this deadline. If the Phillies are willing to move on from a ton of their top prospects in a trade, this would be the type of deal that makes sense to do.
