PFL Chicago Results: Jena Bishop stuns Liz Carmouche to win PFL flyweight championship

Jena Bishop got her revenge, and now she’s the PFL women’s flyweight champion.

On Friday night at WinTrust Arena, PFL Chicago went down, with Bishop facing off against Liz Carmouche for the vacant PFL flyweight title. Carmouche had just knocked out Bishop last year and was a heavy favorite coming into this rematch, but Bishop didn’t let that deter her, instead grinding out a win over the 42-year-old veteran to win her first title.

Carmouche came out strong in the opening round, hurting Bishop and going for the finish. Bishop hung tough, though, and by the second round, it looked like the weight cut had really hurt Carmouche, as she faded badly. By the third round, it seemed like Bishop would run away with things over the gassed Carmouche, getting backmount and threatening with chokes. But in the fourth round, Bishop seemed to gas as well, and Carmouche rallied by sprawling to top position and putting some damage on Bishop.

With everything to play for in the fifth round, Carmouche looked fresher, coming out with renewed energy against the fading Bishop. But Carmouche got shockingly reckless, letting Bishop time a takedown and move to back control. Bishop then spent much of the round attacking a rear-naked choke, even briefly sinking one in before Carmouche was able to defend. Carmouche tried to escape but was simply unable to get Bishop off her.

In the end, the judges got it right, awarding Bishop a unanimous decision win and the PFL women’s flyweight title.

After the fight, Dakota Ditcheva came into the cage to face off with Bishop. Ditcheva beat Bishop by TKO in 2024, and the two will now rematch for the flyweight title sometime next year.
