Penn State facing competition for Class of 2028 commit

Penn State has its eyes set on the football field with the 2026 season set to kick off in less than two months. They made their biggest recruiting push for the Class of 2027 over the last few months and now seem to be shifting their focus towards the 2028 prospects, as most of their top targets for next year are off the board.

The Nittany Lions suffered a flurry of commitment flips over the last month, and now they hope one of their crown jewel players won’t follow suit. Four-star cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. committed to the team back in January, but with a relatively short recruitment and nearly two years since he needs to make an official decision, he is still taking offers from other teams.

Just yesterday, he revealed that Nebraska extended him an offer after having a conversation with the coaching staff.

Flemings Jr. hasn’t given an indication that he isn’t happy with Penn State, but it’s only right to be nervous after the last few heartbreaks. It’s hard to be confident in keeping any recruit after losing strong, four-star athletes like Semajay Robinson and Aiden Gibson to smaller schools like Virginia and Rutgers.

Penn State just needs to continue making Flemings Jr. feel like a priority and make sure he doesn’t grow any wandering eyes. They can’t afford to lose another promising commit, especially with the struggles they’ve undergone with in-state recruiting.
