Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte makes decision ahead of mandatory minicamp

New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will reportedly be at Day 1 of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, according to WBZ’s Aaron Parseghian, via Dan Roche.

Boutte has spent the offseason away from the team, including skipping out on voluntary organized team activities. There were concerns that he wouldn’t appear at minicamp due to the nature of his contract situation. He is currently in the final year of his rookie deal, and his future with the team looked uncertain with the latest additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs.

“I try not to buy into it. At the end of the day, I can control what I can control. As long as I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing off the field, everything else will play out,” Boutte said on Saturday.

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel spoke as if it would be business as usual with Boutte, who has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks.

“I have a great amount of respect for Kayshon. Watching him mature and grow through the entire time that we spent together, that’s a credit to Kayshon, that’s a credit to Todd Downing,” Vrabel told media members. “The communication is, ‘Hey, how are you doing? Are you working hard? Yeah, I like where I’m working out at. We’ll be here ready to coach ya when you’re here.’ That’s been very positive, and I would imagine he would pick up where he left off and grow on the season that he had last year.”

The Patriots would have one of the deepest wide receiving rooms in the league if Boutte stays on the roster. Along with Boutte, Brown and Doubs, the team also has Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III.
