Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez Might Have Had Issue With Robert Kraft’s Comments

Comments about contract situations often don’t sit well with certain players in the National Football League.

For one guy who’s currently dealing with that, Christian Gonzalez, he’s been somewhat quiet to the public, at least in the media, about everything going on behind the scenes.

Gonzalez has shown up to practice, though he’s dealing with an injury, and doesn’t seem to be looking to sit out.

The young man obviously wants to be paid like the best cornerback in the NFL, though he hasn’t said much about it and is letting his play do the talking.

The same can’t be said for New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who came out earlier in the offseason and stated that he’s looking to make Gonzalez the highest-paid corner in the NFL.

That likely changed, at least the price, on Saturday, when it was announced that Devon Witherspoon agreed to a four-year, $132 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks

Some have thought this could speed up the process with Gonzalez and the Patriots, but the latest report suggests the former Oregon standout might be a bit upset that Kraft came out and said New England tried to make him the highest-paid corner in the league.

“Robert Kraft, the owner, had said publicly, ‘Hey, we offered to make him the highest-paid corner in the league.’ He didn’t take it. I don’t sense Gonzalez loved that all that much,” Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported, H/T Heavy.

The 24-year-old Gonzalez hasn’t said he was upset with Kraft for doing this, though Fowler raises a fair point in these negotiations. Players often like to keep things quiet, so Kraft coming out and talking about it could have bothered him.
