Most of the talk surrounding the New England Patriots has been about the wide receivers room. With the entire NFL world enamored by the arrival of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, people are sleeping on the fact that the team still has one of the most potent offensive backfields in the league as well.

And it could be even better in 2026.

Rhamondre Stevenson was seemingly on the verge of being benched permanently due to fumbling issues last season. However, Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stuck with the veteran running back, and Stevenson repaid him for it by once again turning into the team’s most efficient rusher late in the season. When focused, Stevenson is one of the most versatile playmakers in an offensive backfield with the ability to run and catch.

Speaking of versatility, the Patriots have a legitimate home run hitter in TreVeyon Henderson who nearly rushed for 1,000 yards in his rookie season. He will only get better in 2026, making for a strong one-two punch combination with Stevenson.

The Patriots also signed fullback Reggie Gilliam in free agency. They now have one of the NFL’s best blocking fullbacks clearing the way for Stevenson and Henderson. Gilliam made his name with the Buffalo Bills for blocking ahead of All-Pro running back James Cook.

One name to keep an eye on at running back is Lan Larison.

Granted, the Patriots used a seventh-round draft pick on former Alabama running back Jam Miller, who should be in the thick of things of the training camp competition. However, Larison had a strong training camp last year before going down with a season-ending injury.

He’s a talented playmaker who could potentially serve as another weapon for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. During his final year at UC Davis, Larison rushed for 1,465 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also hauling in 62 receptions for 847 yards and six touchdowns.
