Marco Rose hailed Bournemouth’s patience after he snapped his wait for a first Premier League win.

Bournemouth finally got their first top-flight win of the season as they outclassed 10-man Sunderland 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries have lost just one of their last 15 home games across all competitions (W6 D8).

Bournemouth took a sixth-minute lead thanks to Marcus Tavernier’s diving header before Kevin Danso made a Sunderland comeback difficult after receiving a straight red for bringing down Evanilson as the last man.

After Robin Roefs made a string of brilliant saves to thwart Rayan and Evanilson, it was the latter who sealed victory, intercepting Omar Alderete’s underhit back pass before rounding Sunderland’s goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net.

The Cherries registered 29 shots in this contest and Rose was impressed with the way his team responded after suffering a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea last week.

“Congrats to everyone at the club, to the lads, to our fans. They were really patient the last couple of weeks, even [though] we didn’t get the points out of the game. Important win,” said Rose.

“We were quite sharp in these kinds of moments and that’s why we have a clean sheet, we scored two goals and we won the game.

“We were quite dominant, we were intense. I felt even in the locker room and yesterday in training that we wanted to force this win with everything we have. It’s a mentality.”

Meanwhile, Regis Le Bris was left disappointed after his Sunderland side only mustered three attempts, worth a combined 0.07 expected goals.

Sunderland are now on a barren run, with the Black Cats having lost each of their last four Premier League games, their longest losing run in the competition since a five-match stint in December 2015 under Sam Allardyce.

“Tough game, disappointing game, really clear,” said Le Bris.

“We were below the level, it’s really clear. It’s hard to take, hard to digest. It’s very painful because we were not Sunderland and it’s not acceptable.

“We will have ups and downs in the season, this one is a big down. I’m very disappointed for the fans.

“They were with us until the last minute, but they were not on the pitch, which is a big problem in the Premier League because the opponent is strong.”
